What is a circular economy?

Whether you are here to educate yourself or learn about the prototypes, this page is for you!

Overview

A circular economy is an economic system designed to be regenerative and sustainable, where resources are kept in use for as long as possible, and waste is minimized. In a circular economy, the traditional "take-make-dispose" model of production, where something is made, then used, then trashed, is replaced with a closed-loop system that aims to keep materials, products, and components in use for as long as possible.

This idea is achieved by designing products and services that are durable, repairable, and recyclable, and by using renewable resources and energy wherever possible. In addition, a circular economy emphasizes the importance of reducing waste and pollution through methods such as reusing and recycling materials, and recovering valuable resources from waste streams.

Overall, the goal of a circular economy is to create a more sustainable and resilient economic system that is better for the environment, the economy, and society as a whole.

At CircuLab, we believe that overcoming challenges is essential to creating a more sustainable and circular economy. The circular economy presents an opportunity to design systems that are restorative, regenerative, and resilient, but it also requires overcoming barriers and obstacles. This page highlights some of the challenges that we face in the transition to a circular economy and provides resources and solutions to help overcome them.
